Why hot-weather gear specifically

Almost every major gear-review site tests in the Pacific Northwest, the Alps, or somewhere else cool and wet. Their advice is good advice — for those conditions. It transfers badly to a place where the problem is not staying dry, it is staying cool, staying covered, and carrying enough water.

Guiding work happens in that second environment: long days in strong sun, dry heat, dust, and terrain where the nearest water is a planning decision rather than a stream. Gear behaves differently there. Ventilation matters more than waterproofing. A sun hoody is not a luxury. A pack’s back panel decides whether the day is pleasant.

Credentials

Israel Ministry of Tourism licensed guide · Licence 13305. Guiding since 2019, throughout the country, from the northern hills to the desert. Day hikes, family trips, night tours and corporate programmes.

That range matters for gear. A guide who works one trail in one season learns one set of lessons. Seven years across every climate zone in a country that runs from Mediterranean coast to arid desert teaches you which gear claims survive contact with heat, and which are written for somewhere else.

What this site is, and is not

It is an assessment site. Most articles are research-based, built from specifications, independent testing and patterns across real customer reviews, filtered through the criteria a working guide actually uses. Where equipment has been used in the field, that is stated explicitly and the article says so at the top.

It is not a personal blog, and it is not a review of everything. Narrow and honest beats broad and vague. How we test explains exactly what stands behind each recommendation.

The separate business

Guiding work is a separate business from this site. Nothing here is a sales channel for it, and nothing here is influenced by it. The connection is the expertise, not the commerce.
